Feature Articles by Kimberly Drake

"Sic 'em Wizards" features the Baylor Quidditch Association as they strive for legitimacy at Baylor University. Baylor Line Article.pdf (1,4 MB)

Excerpt: "The team gathers on a chilly night to practice on what is left of the Minglewood Bowl outside the Brooks dining hall. They shiver as a cool wind blows across their makeshift stadium. At each end of the field are the goals—three colorful hula-hoops connected between two standing poles, which are held up by cement-filled buckets."

"Weekend Spelunking at Whirlpool" is a first person account of an adventure into the caverns of Austin. Weekend Spelunking at Whirlpool.docx (259,8 kB)

Excerpt: "Breathless and relieved, we’re finally nearing the exit. The 4 ½ hour-long trek back has been unexpectedly harder. Climbing up through the toothed cavern forced strange contortions from my inflexible frame, and my neck is stuck in a crooked lean to the left. The group huddles, absorbing the moment of rest, in a small chamber, probably about 20 feet from the entrance. Our guide, Mark, coughs softly and explains why we have halted.

“We can’t find Lance and Matt,” he says."

"BK Does it Your Way" follows an aspiring politician as he prepares for a Baylor Student Government election. BK Does it Your Way.docx (194 kB)

Excerpt: "Brian shuts the door of the small room and stands authoritatively facing the eager smiles of his campaign team. The room is crowded with 12 of his closest supporters who sit elbow-to-elbow along the confining walls of the second-floor SUB study room.  The doors are tightly shut to prevent potential eavesdroppers from gathering information on the strategy and platform for Internal Vice President nominee Brian Kim."
